Prof. Dr. Siva Mahendran

Prof. Dr. Siva Mahendran is a professionally qualified counsellor, a workplace literacy trainer for the Workforce Development Agency and also an associate English lecturer in an Australian university based in Singapore. He has been in the education field since the early 1980s and has taught in primary and secondary schools, private colleges and tertiary institutions for over 35 years. He has also been counselling and giving talks and workshops on socio-emotional matters to children, youth and adults from all walks of life, on an ad hoc basis, in schools, MNC’s, private establishments, SINDA, etc. since 2000 and has run counselling courses up to Masters level in various private colleges and tertiary institutions. Armed with double Masters (Counselling and English Language) and double Bachelors degrees (English language and Literature), among other certifications and qualifications in fields as diverse as physical education and fitness, pastoral care and career development, socio-emotional matters, etc.
He obtained his doctorate in 2017 after publishing his research in the use of counselling in effective language teaching of spoken English. Siva Mahendran is a life-long learner and continues to do research in best practices and innovations in counselling, language and education. He received his fellowship in 2021 and an Honorary Professor in 2024. He has been engaged from time to time in local and international conferences, discussion forums via radio and television programmes such as Ethiroli, Oli 96.8 FM channel, Starhhub’s Vannathirai Channel’s Neengalum Pesalaam; among others. Having acted in an English drama (Fast Forward programme) to promote the English language and also in two Tamil dramas about familial socio-emotional issues in Mediacorp’s Vasantham channel has added to his resume and kindled his aspiration for life-long learning.
